It all started with an idea
“Finding Space”, is a biofeedback mindfulness inspired virtual reality experience, an environment created to facilitate awareness and conscious breathing. This experience was developed as a proof of concept project accompanying a Masters Research into Empathy and Virtual Reality based on the neuroscientific findings on the use of VR in healthcare settings. It was also inspired by the rise in depression and mental health issues, how can we explore stress relief and creative therapy with immersive technologies?

Info & Recognition
-
Inherit curiosity in mediation, the science of wellbeing and tech for good, was the backbone of this project. Virtual Reality has been studied by neuroscientist for decades and in their research they have discovered the incredible capacity for virtual reality to do good. Simultaneously, as a culture we are seeking wellbeing practices, mediation, breathwork, the use of biometrics to enable conscious decisions around out health.
-
This experience was built using untiy 3d, for the virtual gaming environment Arduino for heart rate sensor, Photoshop for graphics and visuals and Adobe Audition for sound.
-
The goal was to maintain the integrity of a mindful experience. In mindfulness they say the sky is your mind and the clouds are the thoughts, we dont attach ourselves to the clouds but watch them rise and fall. How do we develop a way to enable users to experience a sense of stress relief?
-
Users sit back onto a bean bag with both a headset, headphones, and attached heart rate sensor. The heart rate sensor is responsible for the biofeedback data influencing the flight through the clouds. The binaural sounds used are a specific frequency researched to calm the state of mind mixed with a mediative music track.
